An eye test is an examination of your sight and the health of your eyes. An optometrist or an ophthalmologist conducts it. It can diagnose problems, such as refractive deficiencies, glaucoma, cataracts, and retinal concerns, early.

At Sault Vision Clinic P.C., skilled physicians use advanced technology to help people see clearly, whether they're 5 years old or 105 years old. We'll take you through what you can expect at an eye exam.

What to Expect in a Comprehensive Eye Exam

A full eye exam at Sault Vision Clinic P.C. includes several key components, including:

  1. Vision Testing: The doctor checks your vision and determines the prescription for glasses or contacts based on eye charts and a phoropter.
  2. Eye Health Check: Your optometrist will evaluate your eyes for any signs of cataracts and retinal health using special instruments and a slit lamp microscope. Drops to dilate the pupil may improve the view of the retina.
  3. Pressure Test: The doctor measures the pressure inside the eyes to see if you may have glaucoma, which can be symptomless in its early stages.
  4. Eye Coordination and Focus: Examinations will assess how well the eyes work together and how well they focus on near and far objects.
  5. Advanced imaging: The clinic uses cutting-edge technology such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) for high-resolution retina and optic nerve images, which can detect retinal thinning.
  6. Special Exams: The clinic offers customized Exams such as kids' vision testing and diabetic eye testing.
  7. Emergency Care: Emergency treatment and urgent care are available at the clinic during your visit.

The doctor checks your health history, medications, and any vision problems you may have before the tests. This makes it easier to tailor your test and assess risks. The staff ensures you understand what they are doing and answer your questions.

Technology & Unique Features

Sault Vision Clinic P.C. utilizes advanced technologies for diagnosis and patient comfort:

  • Essilor Visioffice with EyeCode: This device in the optical department customizes eyeglass lenses. The Visioffice System measures the patient's head and eye position, recommending the ideal lens design for precise prescriptions and lifestyles. This ensures glasses provide sharper vision and comfort, particularly for complex progressive or high-prescription lenses.
  • Carl Zeiss Cirrus HD-OCT: This device captures high-definition retina and optic nerve images during eye exams. It identifies conditions like macular degeneration and glaucoma that older methods may miss. The Cirrus HD-OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) offers advanced imaging of retinal, optic nerve, and anterior segment pathology to support diagnosis and monitoring. Annual scans help physicians detect disease progression sooner and initiate treatment earlier.

These technologies, digital eye charts, and modern equipment enable the Sault Vision Clinic P.C.'s team to conduct precise and efficient exams. The high-tech tools help catch eye problems early and tailor visual solutions, ensuring patients of all ages receive eye exams using the latest practices and equipment.
